- The complex has faced lawsuits alleging inadequate security and health and safety issues.
- While the complex received a passing HUD score of 89 in August 2021, there have been about 20 code complaints about the complex in recent years.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information leading to the killer in the Lewis Cherry murder.
Lewis Cherry was found suffering from a gunshot wound at about 1 p.m. at the Freedom Park Apartments on Delano Road, police said. He later died of his wounds.
Atlanta News First reports that Mr. Lewis Cherry was transported to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries suffered during the Freedom Park Apartments shooting.
"Freedom Park, formerly known as the Hickory Park apartments, is among 272 of the metro area’s persistently dangerous complexes, according to an investigation by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that looked into serious crimes, lax maintenance and other hazards in Atlanta neighborhoods."
